Jan. 8 & 9: Gathering of the Gunfighters at Yuma Territorial Prison SHP
 

Come to the historic Yuma Territorial Prison SHP in January for two full days of Gunfights and Re-enactments. The action starts at 9:00 am each day with a new team performing every 20 minutes. Then at noon on Saturday January 8th see some of the most accurate historic costuming in the country during our 13th annual costume competition. At 2:00 pm the Gunfights Resume till 4:00 pm. On Sunday there is a memorial service for fallen but not forgotten gunfighters at 9:00 am then at 9:30 am the gunfight competition begins with a full day of action packed reenactments. The competition ends about 3:00 pm when 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies will be awarded. You can always take a break from the gunfights and tour the historic Territorial Prison or browse some of the great vendors offering historic clothing and libations.

Arizona’s Original Steakhouse, The Stockyards, Continues Search for Arizona’s Best Recipes

 PHOENIX (December 7, 2010) - The Stockyards, Arizona’s Original Steakhouse has partnered up with the Arizona Centennial Commission to create the Centennial Taste of Arizona , the official menu of Arizona’s Centennial.

 Leading up to Arizona’s 100th birthday in 2012, The Stockyards is asking citizens from across the state to submit recipes from a favorite Arizona restaurant or from grandmother’s kitchen. The menu will serve as a lasting legacy for future generations to add to and enjoy.

 The last day to submit a recipe is December 15, 2010. Final menu selections will be determined by the Centennial Commission and featured at The Stockyards beginning February 15, 2011. Story Continues

(Phoenix, AZ)  Celebrate the sounds of the season with the Sonoran Desert Chorale’s 17th annual holiday concert Home For the Holidays December 11 at 7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Mesa and December 12 at 3 p.m. at Valley Presbyterian Church, Paradise Valley.

 The performances welcome special guests The Southwest Brass in a collaboration of festive holiday music, including chorus, brass, organ and percussion, and featuring Z. Randall Stroope’s  An American Christmas and Randol Alan Bass’s Gloria. The Chorale also celebrates England, Austria, Bulgaria, Spain, France and Germany in the singing of traditional seasonal carols from around the world. Plus, the annual Sing-Along incorporates organ, piano, the Chorale and audience participation.   Story Continues

Join the Sun Devil Club prior to the ASU basketball double-header featuring the men's team vs. Gardner-Webb at noon and the women's team vs. Colorado State at 2:30. Photos will be taken at the victory bell located at the southeast entrance to Sun Devil Stadium. Pictures are FREE and will be e-mailed to you within a couple of days…. Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed The Declaration of Independence?
Five signers were captured by the British as traitors and tortured before they died.
Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured. Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.
 
 They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.
 
 What kind of men were they?
 
 Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists.  
 Eleven were merchants.
 Nine were farmers and large plantation owners... men of means...well educated...  but
 they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured
 
 Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags.
 
 Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly.
 
 He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding.  His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.
 
 Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.
 
 At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British general, Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters.  He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt.
 
 Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months.
 
 John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she lay dying.  Their 13 children fled for their lives.  His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste.
 
 For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished.

So, please take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday to remember and silently thank these patriots.
 
 It's not much to ask, considering the price they paid.  
 Remember...FREEDOM IS NEVER FREE!

Emotions are high as three diverse couples cope with the overwhelming, rewarding and comical consequences of conceiving a baby.  Follow the college students, barely at the beginning of their adult lives; the thirty-somethings, having trouble conceiving but determined to try; and the middle-aged parents, looking forward to seeing their last child graduate from college when a night of unexpected passion leads to a surprise pregnancy. With an upbeat musical score embracing jazz, folk and pop styles, this charming show takes a humorous and heartfelt look at “what to expect when you’re expecting”!

Presented by the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation and produced by the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Native Trails is now in its fifth season of free noontime festivals dedicated to exploring the rich and varied cultures of Native America. We invite you to come along on this sensory journey to the first nations of Arizona and North America. Musical performances using traditional instruments such as flutes, gourds and drums will delight your ears. A variety of tribal dances ranging from powwow dancing and fancy dance to the excitement and energy of the traditional hoop dance will amaze your eyes.
