Calendar Features Local Golden
Retrievers
A calendar featuring rescued golden retrievers was released
this week to raise money for the medical care, rescue and
rehabilitation of other goldens in need. 100 percent of the
sales benefit unwanted and homeless Goldens.
The new 2008 Look of Gold calendar celebrates "that look" you
know, the look that makes you hand over another treat. The one
that says "set aside your cares, its time to play." The one that
lets you know that the world revolves completely and solely
around you it's the look of a devoted dog.
The calendar is the primary fundraiser for the Arizona Golden
Retriever Connection (AZGRC), a non-profit rescue organization
dedicated to placing rescued Golden Retrievers in safe, loving
and permanent homes. The calendar showcases previously rescued
Goldens enjoying a new leash on life. All of the proceeds from
calendar sales support the dogs.
Cover dog Teddy is happy charging through life, preferably with
a ball in his mouth, or at least very close by. One of the most
remarkable stories belongs to Mulligan and Bogie from Tucson.
Mulligan was diagnosed with the Parvo virus at age one. Parvo is
a highly contagious virus that affects a dog's ability to absorb
nutrients from food. It also lowers the white blood cell count,
limiting a dog's ability to fight the infection. Mulligan was
aggressively treated and is enjoying his new life in Tucson.
November dogs, Chance and Cody, were found running the streets
of the West Valley. Chance was badly injured, dragging his front
leg, his paw bloodied from the abrasion. We would later learn
that he was injured when riding in the bed of a pickup truck. We
also learned that Cody is Chance's father a devoted dad who
walked alongside his injured son until they were rescued.
AZGRC took both dogs for a full vet check. Chance's leg was
injured a while ago and had started to heal in a way that could
not be corrected without amputation. Having three legs hasn't
stopped him from running, jumping, swimming and chasing. His new
family will tell you that Chance and Cody are the best Goldens
ever and are experts at "the look!"
Each AZGRC dog receives a full health check, is spayed,
neutered, microchipped, licensed and tested for common diseases
like heartworm and Valley Fever. The organization "invests" an
average of $450 in each dog it rescues. Annual bills for
veterinary care total nearly $100,000.
The photography and calendar design is all done in-house by
AZGRC members. The production costs are fully underwritten by
page, printing and production sponsors, allowing 100 percent of
every dollar raised through the sales of the calendar to
directly benefit homeless Goldens.
"Our goal is to raise $25,000 this year. There are so many dogs
in need, we hope the public will open their hearts and purchase
a calendar," AZGRC President Candy Ziemer said. "For just 10
dollars, you can change the luck of a Golden in need and enjoy
12 months of beautiful dogs."
The calendar is available at several local stores, or online at
www.azgrc.org . Calendars cost $10 in stores and $13 online,
including shipping. For locations to buy the calendars go to

Bob Coonts
Brings Blaze of Color to Arizona Fine Art EXPO
Inside Out a
Book for All Seasons
Colorado artist, Bob Coonts returns to Arizona Fine Art EXPO for
the 4th year with a surprise for patrons -- Inside Out: The
Art of Bob Coonts. This newly published book features 140
pages of blazing color; an exciting sampling of Coonts
imaginative work.
The EXPO began Jan. 10 and runs
everyday through March 23; showcasing 110
award-winning, nationally acclaimed artists working in studios,
highlighted by a gallery-setting backdrop. The artist's are
nestled under 44,000 square feet of festive white tents at the
Southwest corner of Scottsdale and Jomax Roads (26540 N.
Scottsdale Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85255), 5 miles south of
Carefree & 5 miles North of Loop 101 on Scottsdale Road.
Ever-exploring new media and art possibilities, Coonts is best
recognized by the intense color and minute details in his
artwork. The details, reminiscent of Gustav Klimt, take the form
of geometric shapes that may morph into blades of grass and
fields of flowers. Other details are reminiscent of Native
American symbolism -- arrows for the heart line or a disk
representing the sun. Coonts interest in prehistoric man
resulted in a series of petroglyph-like works.
His
love of animals, domestic and wild, is felt in images of cats,
horses, buffalo, roosters --- none quite realistically
presented, except for the eyes. Not content to be seen as an
expressionist only, his curiosity about shapes and colors and
the process of abstracting, gave birth to a series of
contemporary abstracts that, again, reflects Coonts love of
strong color.
An invited artist for the Parade of Painted Ponies, Coonts first
life-size horse (Mosaic Appaloosa) is one of the
'retired' miniature collectible ponies. His Prairie Horizon
has just been released in miniature.
Coonts has shown in 50-plus invitational and juried exhibits and
is part of permanent museum and corporate collections in New
York, Israel, Czechoslovakia, France, Germany, Poland, Mexico
and Colorado. Private collectors span the continent.
Showcasing Coonts 13 years in fine art, the Bob Coonts
retrospective at the Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art in
2007, boasted more than 130 paintings and sculptures. Museum
goers were treated to the diverse array of creativity that is
Bob Coonts.
Coonts fine art career follows a successful 25 year career in
graphic design working with international companies and
co-founding the biennial Colorado International Invitation
Poster Exhibition whose global draw puts Colorado State
University and Fort Collins on the arts radar. Coonts continues
as an affiliate faculty member of the Colorado State University
Art Department. His contributions to the Fort Collins community
make him a treasured citizen, reflected in his receiving the
first Arts Alive Medallion for community service to the arts.
The EXPO takes place on the southwest corner of Jomax and
Scottsdale Roads, Scottsdale, Ariz. Season passes are $7 and $6
for seniors and military. Children under 12 are free. Parking is
also free. More information is available by visiting

Your Favorite Team and Help Tackle
Hunger
The Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee, Safeway and Westcor are
fighting hunger one can at a time with a Super Bowl-inspired
canned food drive known as Super Canstruction®.
On Thursday, January 31, SMPS Arizona and Valley architectural,
engineering and construction firms will team up at two local
Westcor Shopping Centers to design football-themed structures
made entirely from canned food donations. The team of
architects will construct a replica of University of Phoenix
Stadium, and six foot tall team helmets of the New York Giants
and New England Patriots. Fans are encouraged to help build
their favorite team¹s helmet by dropping canned donations in the
designated team boxes.
After the build takes place, the exhibits will remain on display
through February 5, two days after Super Bowl XLII is played at
University of Phoenix Stadium.
Super Canstruction® is free and open to the public, with canned
food donations suggested. Safeway will match all canned food
donations and, at the close of the exhibit, all cans used in the
structures will be donated to the St. Mary¹s Food Bank Alliance
to support the elimination of hunger. Approximately 22,600
total cans will be used to build the structures.

GIVE
BLOOD
Give blood! If you
can donate blood there is a critical need right now. In
fact, all elective heart surgeries have been moved back because
there is a shortage of blood in Arizona right now. Please
get the word out to your friends!
Jo Cribben says,
"Mom was all prepared for open heart surgery (2 valves & 2
bypasses), had her iodine bath and everything. Then as she
should have been wheeled into the Boswell Hospital operating
room word came down that there was insufficient blood and
her surgery will have to be rescheduled for Monday or later.
Because she is stable they don’t want to risk being short
the blood she will need."
"This
is very frustrating and I’m sure there are hundreds of
others across the state in similar circumstances. Mom can
not leave the hospital because she has had all of her tests
and if she left would have to start all over. So now she
will have been in the hospital 5 days before the surgery
waiting… The IV and monitor wires get to be pretty
irritating, but she has been a trooper smiling through it
all."
"My sister took all
of her vacation time to be here this week from California.
Now she will have to go back to work and miss Mom’s surgery.
She is so upset. But she is in a new job and can not take
off additional time. "
Please Give Blood!
The life you save could be someone you love!

unusual still lifes of Sherry Loehr and Genetta
McLean will be exhibited at

accomplished visual artist who combines her interest in

World-Class Performers
to Descend on Arizona
What does the Super Bowl and
Arizona Fine Art EXPO have in common? Both are being
held in Arizona during February and will showcase
winners.
Thunderbird Artists
is a champion when it comes to producing top-quality
fine art events, and the Arizona Fine Art EXPO is no
exception.
Scheduled for Jan. 10th –
March 23rd, 2008, the Arizona Fine Art EXPO
will showcase 115 champion (Super Bowl quality) artists
working in a studio environment, highlighted by a
gallery-setting backdrop. Each artist’s studio will be
nestled under 43,000 square feet of festive white tents
on Scottsdale and Jomax Roads (26540 N. Scottsdale Rd.,
Scottsdale, AZ 85255).
In
addition to enjoying magnificent bronzes, copper, clay,
stone and metal sculptures positioned in the handsome
Sculpture Garden, patrons can watch artists welding,
fusing glass, carving and etching stone, patina
finishing, plein air painting and more in outdoor
cabanas. Indoors, world-class artists are also on
display, passionately painting; sketching in pen & ink;
creating in pastels; sculpting wood, clay and acrylics;
assembling mixed media on canvas; and welding, sculpting
and designing jewelry.
During
the past three years, the EXPO received rave reviews
from the attending patrons. The 2008 unveiling is
sure to be another smashing success and captivating
experience. Entertainment this year includes NAMY
award-winning Brule’ and his band Airo; award-winning
hoop dancer Brian Hammill; Mexican fiesta dancing; Paul
McDermand performing on his steel drums and marimbas;
chefs’ demonstrations; wine tastings; and more.
The
Arizona Fine Art EXPO is all about providing an ambiance
like none other that will be forever remembered. The
event combines the aspects of a juried fine art
festival, the elements of a gallery and the
inner-workings of an artist’s studio. The result is a
unique celebration of art that functions as an
educational tool for the children and art enthusiasts.
The EXPO takes place on the southeast corner of Jomax
and Scottsdale Roads, Scottsdale, Ariz. A season
pass is $7 and $6 for seniors and military. Children
under 12 are free. Parking is also free. More

Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee Announces
Results of Super Bowl XLII Media Study
The Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee today
announced the results of a media study that was
conducted by the Business INSIGHT Group inside the
NFL Media Center during Super Bowl week, from
January 27-February 2, 2008.
The study was conducted by interviewing NFL
credentialed media members at the Host Committee
booth at the NFL Media Center during Super Bowl
week. The goal was to assess the extent of the
media coverage that Arizona garnered as a result of
hosting Super Bowl XLII, and to get an idea of the
media's experience during their time in Arizona.
"The study confirms that the Host Committee achieved
one of our key goals: to help make the media's
experience in Arizona the best it could be," said
Host Committee President Bob Sullivan. "Our goal
was to create an environment that was both helpful
and efficient for the media while they were here.
In addition, we are very happy to see they felt
that Arizona and the Valley of the Sun is a great
place to host a Super Bowl."
Highlights of the Super Bowl XLII media study
include:
- 94.4
percent of journalists polled reported that they
were satisfied with the NFL Media Center, with
70.8 percent reporting that they were Every
satisfied.
-
88.3 percent of journalists polled considered
their time in Arizona fun and exciting.
- 72.9 percent of journalists
polled considered their Super Bowl XLII
experience in Arizona enriching.
- 67.5
percent of journalists polled considered their
coverage to be predominantly about non-football
related aspects of the Super Bowl. 35 percent
considered their coverage to be predominantly
about Super Bowl events, 13 percent about
tourism and local events.
- 80
percent of the media members polled considered
their local interest reports to be positive,
while 18.3 considered them balanced. Just 1.7
percent of journalists considered their local
interest pieces about Arizona to be negative.
-
Approximately 15 percent of all Super Bowl
stories are filed by international journalists.
-
International journalists who traveled to
Arizona reported more about pre-Super Bowl
events than they reported on football. 29.1
percent of international journalists
predominantly reported on pre-Super Bowl
coverage, and 17 percent of international
journalists focused primarily on local interest
and tourism pieces about Arizona. Only 33.4
percent of international journalists who
traveled to Arizona for Super Bowl reported
predominantly on the athletes and coaches
participating in the game.
-
International journalists who traveled to the
Super Bowl reported more on Arizona than those
who did not travel. While 33.4 percent of
traveling international journalists reported
predominantly on the game, 76.3 percent of
international journalists who did not come to
Arizona focused primarily on the game.

Arizona Cardinals Fullback Terrelle
Smith Joins
Arizona - Sonora Bowl II
When Terrelle Smith played football at ASU nearly 10
years ago, he shared with a friend that if he ever
went pro, he wanted to use his position to work with
underprivileged kids and change lives.
Today, with eight years as an NFL player under his
belt, Smith is making good on his promise.
The Arizona Cardinals fullback is taking a lead role
in planning and promoting the Arizona-Sonora Bowl
II, an Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee sanctioned
event targeting kids and families who want to join
in the Super Bowl excitement for no charge.
“I’ve been involved with football camps for kids
during other Super Bowls,” said Smith, still nursing
sore muscles from the Cardinals victorious season
closer against the Rams. “But this is different
instead of just getting a call to attend an event,
I¹m a part of something really big.”
And big, it is. An international
event scheduled Jan. 27,
the Sunday before Super Bowl XLII, the
Arizona-Sonora Bowl II pits youth teams representing
the two states one from the U.S. and one from
Mexico. More than that, it includes morning clinics
for selected underprivileged children, led by Smith,
joined by Marvel Smith of the Pittsburgh Steelers
and other NFL players. Area families are invited to
enjoy the Cardinals Experience, a hands-on
entertainment area similar to the popular NFL
Experience, at no charge. Other activities include
chances to meet the pros during an autograph session
starting at noon, art, educational and environmental
exhibits and family activities.
Smith doesn’t want to be merely a figurehead for the
event. He’ll be involved with some of the practices,
with planning and being present the day of the event
to do everything from teaching the basics of
football to signing autographs and presenting
awards.
For him, it’s bringing a vision to reality. “Once I
got signed with the Cardinals, I said, "let's do
it!" in terms of finding something to do for the
community,” he said. “We found this opportunity
working with County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox and
the Cardinals. You don’t realize how hard it is to
put all the pieces together in planning an event
like this, working with the people in Mexico and
all. It¹s a great thing going on here.”
Smith sees the event as something much more than
just a football game between youth representing two
states in neighboring countries. “I want the
spotlight to be on the kids who are involved with
this, with the clinics and the events. They’re kids
who haven’t been so fortunate in some areas of their
lives. This event is also a great way to bring
people from different countries together who don’t
often get a chance to interact. I’m hoping this will
open the eyes of people who don’t know much about
the children we¹re going to be working with. This
event needs to impact more people’s lives than just
the small group who are involved.”
The Arizona-Sonora Bowl II is designed to strengthen
relations and understanding between the two
neighboring states, is sanctioned by the Arizona
Super Bowl Host Committee, and put on by a
partnership between the Arizona-Mexico Commission,
Maricopa County, Comisión Sonora-Arizona and the
Comisión del Deporte del Estado de Sonora.
Supervisor Wilcox is chairing the committee. The
event will be at Copper Canyon High School in
Glendale.
The first Arizona-Sonora Bowl was played in
conjunction with Super Bowl XXX in 1996. Profits
will benefit the Sports Ad-Hoc Committee of the
Arizona-Mexico Commission, which serves to foster
the cultural, physical, and personal growth among
children and teenagers through sports exchange
between Arizona and Mexico. For details, go to

20,000 Athletes with NFL Youth Football Clinics
The Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee is excited
to announce that, following the NFL Youth Football
Clinics in Phoenix and Chandler on
January 26 and 27,
over 20,000 Arizona athletes will have participated
in this year's program.
The Host Committee, in partnership with the Arizona
Cardinals and Safeway, began holding clinics in July
2007, with the ultimate goal of reaching a record
20,000 athletes around the state. The goal was
created in celebration of the 20th anniversary of
the NFL Youth Football Clinics program which is
implemented annually in the respective Super Bowl
host city, reaching more than 3,000 youngsters each
year.
Starting with the first clinic on July 28, 2007, the
Host Committee held a total of 20 free NFL Youth
Football Clinics for boys and girls between the ages
of 7 14, as well as all Special Olympics Arizona
athletes. Clinics were held all over the state
including stops in Phoenix, Chandler, Avondale,
Goodyear, Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, Gila River
Indian Reservation, Flagstaff, Scottsdale, Mesa,
Tucson, San Luis, and Glendale.
Currently, the Host Committee has reached more than
18,000 athletes. After the final clinics take place
on Saturday January 26 and Sunday January 27, the
Host Committee will have reached their goal of
20,000 athletes. These clinics are full, and
reservations are not being taken.
The NFL Youth Football clinics are led by current
and former NFL players, as well as local youth and
high school football coaches. This year's clinics
will focus on the NFL FLAG Football program,
allowing athletes to work on offensive and defensive
flag football skills through a series of drill
stations followed by flag football scrimmages. In
addition, participants learn good sportsmanship and
healthy lifestyle lessons. Spike will also be there
to cheer on the athletes, who will all receive

designated team boxes.
After the build takes place, the exhibits will
remain on display through February 5, two days after
Super Bowl XLII is played at University of Phoenix
Stadium.
Super Canstruction® is free and open to the public,
with canned food donations suggested. Safeway will
match all canned food donations and, at the close of
the exhibit, all cans used in the structures will be
donated to the St. Mary¹s Food Bank Alliance to
support the elimination of hunger. Approximately
22,600 total cans will be used to build the

currently held in cities throughout North America.
Teams of architects, engineers, and students compete
to design and build giant structures made entirely
from full cans of food. The results are displayed
to the public as magnificent sculpture exhibits in
each city where a competition is held. At the close
of the exhibitions, all of the canned food used in
the structures is donated to local food banks.
Since its inception, ten million pounds of food has
been donated to aid in the fight against hunger.

NFL and Community Partners Plant
Thousands of Trees
to Make Super Bowl XLII Green
Event Dates: Tuesday,
January 22 and Friday, January 25, 2008
urban tree plantings helping to green super bowl
Who: Jack Groh, NFL Environmental Program, Steve
Owens, Director, Arizona Department of Environmental
Quality,
Bob Sullivan, Arizona Super Bowl XLII Host
Committee, Pat Tankersley, Arizona Cardinals. Other
partners include: Salt River Project, the Home Depot
Foundation, Arizona Community Tree Council, US
Forest Service, Arizona Office of the State
Forester, RBF Consulting, White Mountain Apache
Tribe, and Sprint Telecommunications.
What: Forty-two trees
are being planted at schools throughout the Valley
as part of the NFL Environmental Program ³greening²
of Super Bowl XLII. Seven schools are host sites
with each school receiving six trees. Media events
will be held at two of the schools (please see
details below)
When/where: Tuesday, Jan. 22, 10:30 am, Desert
Oasis Elementary, 8802 W. McDowell Rd., Phoenix,
Friday, January 25, 9:00 a.m., Royal Palm Middle
School, 8520 N. 19th Avenue, Phoenix
More Information: Other schools
include: Canyon Breeze (Avondale), Hurley Ranch and
Dos Rios Schools (Tolleson), Garcia and Lowell
Schools (Phoenix).
These urban tree plantings are part of the overall
"greening" of Super Bowl XLII. Other environmental
projects include recycling, food recovery, material
reuse and donation, sports equipment and book
donation and the use of renewable energy to power
Super Bowl events including the Super Bowl XLII
Championship Game. In addition to the urban
plantings, more than 84 acres of land in the Rodeo-Chediski
are being reforested as part of the environmental
program.
The NFL's Environmental Program is part of the
larger community outreach effort that seeks to
create permanent benefits in the Super Bowl host
community.
The National Football League and the Arizona Super
Bowl XLII Host Committee are working with local,
state and national partners to plant thousands of
trees in Arizona as part of the NFL Environmental
Program at Super Bowl XLII.
More than nine thousand trees are being planted to
restore native habitat in an area devastated by wild
fires five years ago. In addition, a series of urban
forestry projects will plant larger trees on school
campuses throughout the Phoenix area.
Three large reforestation projects have been
developed in the Rodeo-Chediski Fire burn area, the
site of one of the worst fires in the state's
history, destroying nearly half a million acres of
forest. Forty-two acres of Ponderosa Pine are being
planted on the White Mountain Apache Reservation and
an additional forty-two acres are being planted at
the nearby Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest.
Another twelve-acre site has been added to the
original planting area because of interest from
Super Bowl sponsors in joining the project.
Seven local schools were selected as urban forestry
sites and each campus will receive six large trees
to be planted before Super Bowl XLII. Unlike higher
mountain areas where seedlings can be planted, the
drier, hotter climate in the Phoenix area requires
that larger trees be planted in order to survive the
heat.
Support for these tree-planting projects has come
from the Arizona Department of Environmental
Quality, Salt River Project, The Home Depot
Foundation, Arizona Community Tree Council, US
Forest Service, the Arizona Office of the State
Forester, RBF Consulting, White Mountain Apache
Tribe, and Sprint.
This is the fourth year that the NFL has developed
tree-planting projects as part of the overall
'greening' of Super Bowl. Previous projects have
taken place in Jacksonville, Detroit, and South
Florida. In each case, the NFL has worked with a
coalition of public and private organizations who
share an interest tree planting.
Other environmental projects at Super Bowl XLII
address solid waste, material reuse, and prepared
food recovery. This year's Super Bowl will be
powered by energy from renewable sources including
wind, solar, landfill gas and geothermal
The NFL Environmental Program is just one of a large
number of community events and initiatives developed
each year by the NFL to leave a positive legacy in
each Super Bowl host community.

LOCAL SCHOOLS TEAM UP
WITH
NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE, ARIZONA CARDINALS,
ARIZONA SUPER BOWL XLII HOST COMMITTEE AND
NFL YOUTH EDUCATION TOWN TO HELP CHILDREN IN NEED
Public and private schools in the Valley are teaming up
with the National Football League, Arizona Cardinals,
the Arizona Super Bowl XLII Host Committee and the NFL
Youth Education Town in Arizona for a Super Bowl project
that puts books and sports equipment into the hands of
children in need. The project, called Super Kids-Super
Sharing has been implemented in Super Bowl host
communities for the past eight years and has placed tens
of thousands of books and pieces of sports equipment
into the hands of children who might not otherwise have
access to such items.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix Schools, the
Scottsdale School District and schools from the
Litchfield, Tempe and Paradise Valley School Districts
have already signed on to collect lightly used books and
sports equipment for the project. It’s not too late for
other schools to join in the effort.
Beginning in December
participating schools will ask their students to donate
lightly used or new books and sports equipment they are
no longer using. Approximately a week before Super Bowl,
donated items will be brought to a collection point
where they will be sorted, then distributed to
pre-selected schools and organizations for use by
underprivileged children.
“Response from our partners and from local schools has
been tremendous,” said Jack Groh, Director of the NFL’s
Environmental Program for Super Bowl. “There’s a
wonderful sense of community and a willingness to help
others here. Arizona’s Super Kids-Super Sharing project
has the potential to be our biggest to date.”’
The Super Kids-Super Sharing project is part of the
NFL’s environmental initiative for Super Bowl. It
involves recycling items that can be used by other
children, while providing an opportunity for schools to
be involved in the excitement of Super Bowl.
Arizona Cardinals’ Quarterback Kurt Warner will serve as
spokesman for the Super Kids-Super Sharing project.
“This Super Bowl project is all about kids helping other
kids,” said Warner. “It harnesses the power of Super
Bowl and the good will of the community to help those in
need.”
Local schools interested in contributing books and
sports equipment to the Super Kids-Super Sharing project
may do so by contacting Susan Groh, Project Director at
(401) 732-1551 or
NFLenvironment@aol.com . The NFL provides
instructions, poster and flyer templates and other
materials to make it easy for schools to implement this
project.
The National Football League Environmental Program plays
an active role behind the scenes at Super Bowl. In
addition to the Super Kids-Super Sharing project, the
NFL Environmental Program ensures that tens of thousands
of pounds of unserved prepared food from Super Bowl
events are distributed to local shelters and community
kitchens. The Environmental Program is also responsible
for recycling cardboard and other materials from Super
Bowl events and donates everything from decorative
banners to building materials to local non-profit
agencies. Thousands of seedling trees will be planted to
offset greenhouse gas emissions from Super Bowl related
events, creating a “carbon neutral” Super Bowl.
“Green power” will also
be used to light the University of Phoenix Stadium for
Super Bowl XLII and to power the NFL Experience Football
Theme Park.
The NFL Environmental Program is just one of a large
number of community events and initiatives implemented
each year by the NFL to leave a positive legacy in each
Super Bowl host community. |

Special Olympics athletes at 11am, and the general public was

coaches and be treated to healthy snacks courtesy of Safeway.
Spike and Big Red will also be there to cheer on the athletes,
who will all receive official NFL merchandise courtesy of the

Jay Leno Headlines, Chris Berman Emcees, Hall of
Fame Participates in Host Committee Black-tie Affair
during Super Bowl Week
During the NFL Commissioner's Luncheon at the Westin
Kierland Resort in Scottsdale, Super Bowl Host
Committee President Bob Sullivan announced that Jay
Leno will be the headline entertainment at the Host
Committee's Big Ticket Gala. The black-tie event
will be held at the Phoenician Resort in Phoenix on
Wednesday, January 30, just days before the AFC and
NFC champions take the field for Super Bowl XLII in
Glendale.
A renowned sports fan, Jay Leno is in his 16th
season as host of NBC's The Tonight Show, and will
tape his show early that day in Los Angeles in order

"We are thrilled that Jay will be joining us for our
Big Ticket Gala,² said Host Committee President Bob
Sullivan. "From the first moment we began planning
this event we felt he would be the ideal person to
have as the headline entertainment, and we couldn't
be happier that he agreed. Jay is the definition of
an entertainer, and he will certainly help make it a
very memorable evening."
The Host Committee also announced today that
legendary ESPN football anchor Chris Berman will
emcee the Big Ticket Gala. Berman has been named
the National Sportscaster of the Year six times by
the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters

include a live and silent auction; among numerous
other items, the auction will feature a Harley
Davidson motorcycle autographed by Jay Leno, former
Raiders linebacker Howie Long, and the other Hall of
Famers in attendance. Tickets to the gala are
