Folk Arts Fair Issues Call for Folk Artists
The Sharlot Hall Museum is inviting folk artists, craftspeople and performers to participate in this year’s Folk Arts Fair, June 4-5 on the Museum grounds, 415 W. Gurley St. in Prescott. Participant application forms are available at the Museum and on the Museum’s website at http://sharlot.org/images/stories/festivals/FAF2011_applicationform.pdf. The deadline for submitting applications is Sunday, May 1.
Under the banner of “Village of Traditions,” the fair will feature themed areas where artists of similar specialties will gather to demonstrate their skills. As always, the Fair’s emphasis is on demonstration and education rather than craft displays or sales. Demonstrators, performers and history interpreters will recreate many aspects of frontier life, including sheep shearing, candle-dipping, wood carving, survival skills and Dutch oven baking.
For more information on the 38th Annual Folk Arts Fair, call 928-445-3122 ext 34. Information about this and other Sharlot Hall Museum events is available online at
www.sharlot.org.The Mesa Veterans Parade Association
(MVPA) recently inducted its 2011 slate of officers. Bob Burns, founding member, returned to the presidency. Wes Waddle, an active Colonel in the AZ USAF, is second in command as the Vice president. Janice Shaproski has returned to keep the MVPA informed as Secretary and Karen Malta is addressing the financial aspect as our very competent Treasurer. The collective goal of these new officers is to have the best Veterans’ Parade we possibly can.Attached is the flyer for our April fundraiser a golf tournament at Apache Wells. A great team builder and/or customer relations promotion for your business.
HOME SALES As of the end of January, 2011
January sales dropped off substantially as was expected. There were 5440 closings in December. With 29,014 homes available for sale, that gives us a market supply of 5 1/4 months. Pending sales have moved up from December levels indicating that we should have in increase in the number of closes in February.
There were a total of 78,336 closings in 2010, a drop from the 81,561 in 2009.
The news about the market continues to be mixed with many predicting that we will have a double dip and some bullish about the market. The fact remains that with the current combination of interest rates and pricing, this time frame will be looked at as one of the best buying markets in a long time.
A few years from now most will say with regret, " I should have bought in 2011".
I am not sure about the rest of you, but to find a home in good condition, that is well priced, is extremely difficult and many of them get sold in a day or 2. There is a lot of inventory, even though levels are low, that is just plain "junk".
Even though the wait is longer with a short sale property, you have a good chance of a home in reasonable condition and some in very good condition because owner still lives there, may be getting relocation money if they stay and the house is intact when turned over and some just flat out good people that don’t want to mess their credit up any more than it is and yet have to move on.
Western History Symposium Set for August 6 in Prescott

EAT, SLEEP, POOP
Dr. Cohen, co-founder of Beverly Hills
Pediatrics, is a father of two, and author of Eat. Sleep. Poop.
He knows from experience the questions new parents have and what
they need to know. So he wrote a user-friendly guide that walks
moms-to-be through everything from preparing for baby to
preventing illnesses to the ins and outs of those three basic
functions: “Eat, Sleep, Poop”.
It's especially interesting to read a book written from both a father and doctor perspective. Dr. Cohen comments about what he has read or heard and what his personal experience has been. Often he relates to his own daughter and how they treat her and even when he has medical knowledge, parent intuition comes into play. Story Continues

Maricopa County Sheriff
Joe Arpaio appointed rock legend Ted Nugent
deputy and was sworn in last summer in Arpaio’s
downtown Phoenix office. Nugent is known for his
conservative political views and defense of
hunting and gun ownership rights. He has served
on the board of directors of the National Rifle
Association and is a spokesman for the Drug
Abuse Resistance Education, National Field
Archery Association, Mothers Against Drunk
Driving and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
At 62, the veteran rocker’s no holds barred career spans five decades of multi-platinum hits and more than 30 million albums sold. Both as a solo artist and with the Amboy Dukes and Damn Yankees, Nugent has amassed a sizable list of well-known hits, including "Journey To The Center Of The Mind," "Stranglehold," "Free For All," "Dog Eat Dog," "Wango Tango," "Cat Scratch Fever," "Motor City Madhouse," cult classic “Fred Bear,” "High Enough” and “Love Grenade.” Hailing from Detroit, Nugent’s guitar talents and over-the-top onstage antics quickly earned young Ted the moniker of "Motor City Madman." Get your Nuge on! His fire-breathing intensity and the sound he wrings from his almighty Gibson Byrdland have placed him among the all-time greats of rock & roll. In addition to music, Nugent is a New York Times best-selling author of Ted, White and Blue: The Nugent Manifesto and his autobiography titled God, Guns, & Rock n' Roll. He heads up his own hunting camp, owns his own hunting supply store and sells his own beef jerky. LISTEN HERE |

Mr. Lucky -- Chris Isaak’s
stunning new masterpiece -- perfectly balances the
ecstasy of great romance with the agony of pure
heartbreak. Mr. Lucky offers passionate music that
feels decidedly lived-in. Like some rocking Sinatra
album for the 21st Century, Mr. Lucky is a song
cycle about the good luck we earn and the bad luck
we just can’t seem to shake. Right from its killer
opener -- the wonderfully tortured “Cheaters Town”
-- to the concluding and uplifting “Big, Wide
Wonderful World,” Isaak takes us all on a dark but
beautiful ride -- one you will likely recognize as
your own.
