A
personal take on growing up on Route 66 during the 1950’s &
1960’s THE 66 KID: Raised on the Mother Road: Growing Up on
Route 66, the World's Most Famous Two-Lane Blacktop
By Bob Boze Bell | Available September, 2014
[Cave Creek, AZ] It's the
most famous highway in the world - find out, or remember, why.
Tens of thousands of travelers from around
the world spend millions of dollars every year trying to
recapture the aura of a simpler time. When gasoline can top $4 a
gallon and Route 66 is, in many ways, a shell of its former
glory, what keeps them coming? Author Bob Boze Bell, a lifelong
resident of Kingman, Arizona (one of the quintessential Route 66
towns), has accumulated a unique sense of the Mother Road's
history, not to mention friendships with folks from Kingman and
other Route 66 communities.
Author, publisher, illustrator, and
Emmy-winning director and host Bob Boze Bell puts the
everlasting allure of Route 66 into perspective by showing
readers what it was like growing up in Kingman, during the
heyday of automobile travel in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
This personal take on the Mother Road’s History - part
autobiography, part narrative history, part oral history, all
beautifully illustrated – expertly weaves personal memories and
observations with entertaining first-person accounts of people
who lived, worked, and played along the road. Bell digs deep
into the roots of the Route 66, offering insights into the
people who made it run: from the neon-lit motels to the
greasy-spoon diners, and even the shady roadside attractions.
Illustrated with personal archival
photographs, maps, period advertising art, vintage postcards,
specially commissioned maps and of course the author’s own
fantastic watercolors, The 66 Kid is a Mother Road book like no
other, offering a unique look at a slice of Route 66’s history.
Entertaining and fascinating, while making sense of the
highways enduring popularity, The 66 Kid proves that you can
still get your kicks on Route 66.
About the Author: Bob Boze Bell is the
co-owner and publisher of True West magazine and the host of
Outrageous Arizona, an Emmy-winning documentary about Arizona's
road to statehood. He has published and illustrated
groundbreaking books on Wyatt Earp, Billy the Kid, and Doc
Holliday, as well as his series entitled Classic Gunfights.
Boze’s artwork and writing have also appeared in Arizona
Highways, New Times, Playboy, Wild West, and National Lampoon.
"Any rascal who misspent his youth in the
'50s and '60s toting ice for travelers at his dad's gas station
in Kingman...should have one hell of a story to tell about his
life and times on Route 66. BBB's words and images are as tasty
as truck-stop pie. You will want another helping."

Mother Road and voice of The Sheriff of Radiator Springs in the
movie Cars
IRISH LIBRARY CELEBRATES
“DUBLINERS”
100-YEAR ANNIVERSARY
James Joyce book inspires
lectures, movies, and more at McClelland Irish Library
James Joyce wrote “Dubliners” before 1905.
The book is a collection of 15 short stories that was
groundbreaking because it pushed the genre while featuring
real people and real situations — something that had never been
done before. Many of the characters in the book bore a
close resemblance to family members, friends and enemies
of the author.
Joyce spent almost a decade trying to have
the book published in part because he refused to cut out
controversial sections. After countless rejections by Irish
printers who burned and destroyed pages, it was finally
published in London.
The lecture “James Joyce’s Dubliners: Still
Engaging Readers and Writers 100 Years After Publication” takes
place from 7-8 p.m. Sept. 24 and will be presented by Irish-born
poet Adrienne Leavy. Leavy is widely published in Irish
literary journals and currently working on her first poetry
collection. The lecture is $5 donation for nonmembers, free for
members.

The Art of LEGO Design |
|||||||||||||
San Francisco, CA, June 18, 2014—LEGO
is enjoying an unprecedented renaissance that began well
before the release of The LEGO Movie. For over a decade,
LEGO artists like Nathan Sawaya and Mike Doyle have been
creating jaw-dropping, museum-quality artwork by
carefully piecing together those plastic bricks that we
all grew up with. Their work seems truly magical. But
even magicians sometimes share their secrets. In
The Art Of LEGO Design (No Starch Press, $24.95,
288 pp., July 2014, ISBN 9781593275532, 4C throughout),
LEGO artist Jordan Schwartz delves into the building
techniques of the LEGO masters and, with the aid of
hundreds of stunning, full-color photos, shows us how
the magic happens. A true LEGO prodigy, Schwartz became
one of the LEGO Group's youngest designers ever when he
landed an internship at the age of eighteen. Now, he
shares his expertise with readers, teaching them the
tricks of LEGO artists so that they can learn to create
like the masters and discover the magic of LEGO art for
themselves. Readers learn to think like the masters too,
through interviews with thirteen standout LEGO builders.
"When you've built with LEGO for a while, step-by-step
instructions just aren't as satisfying," said Schwartz.
"While instructions can show you how to re-create
specific models, they fail to explain how and why the
original builder made certain design choices. This book
reveals those thought processes."
The Art Of LEGO Design shows
readers how to: ·
Create lifelike creatures using
ordinary elements in unusual ways—like inside-out tires
for the legs of an octopus or minifigure capes for an
owl ·
Design sleek cars with smooth
sides and no exposed studs on their bricks ·
Add realism to dioramas with
light bricks or LEDs ·
Create real world textures like
cobblestone roads and brick walls It involves more than just clicking a bunch of
bricks together to create a stunning piece of LEGO
artwork. The truly great creations combine design
knowledge with careful planning and a bit of trial and
error. But with a dose of imagination and Schwartz as
their guide, LEGO fans can finally take the next step to
becoming LEGO artists. For more information or to request a review

January 15, 2013 Fang and Stinger (An
Arachnid Tale). The new title is
brilliantly illustrated by Storad’s long-time
collaborator, Nathan Jensen. The story is sure to
delight an entire new generation of young readers.
Jensen’s bright, detailed illustrations bring Storad’s
words to life on the pages. Tootie, a red knee
tarantula, only has one fang. Her best friend is
Hairyette, a desert hairy scorpion, who is afraid of her
own tale. Together, the arachnid pals must deal with
taunting and teasing and the travails of being
“different.” They must also face up to the neighborhood
bully, mean old Peppi the wasp. The story is narrated by
Eddie the Elf Owl, a “Watcher” with many stories to
tell. Sex, Drugs And Self-Discovery: An Existential Novel For The Facebook Generation Houston, TX, January 7, 2013 - The Sabbatical (Createspace), by Frederick Pinto, explores the meaning of success and deep fulfillment in a fickle, continuously changing modern world. Pinto weaves his own experiences in the music industry and thoughts on Western society into a story of personal awakening after a young man loses everything he valued. Charles Barca spent six years getting it “all”: wild success as the owner of an online music company, a relationship with a rising artist girlfriend, and local rock star status — only to see it crashing down in one day. Set in the landscape of the drug-strewn, head-banging clubs and the slick offices of the new creative elite, his social-climbing entourage vanishes as he is removed as the resident genius of the company he himself founded, and seeks sanity and purpose in the cynical worlds of modern art and business. The Sabbatical covers the following months of Charles’ life as he deals with self-loathing, drugs, traveling and mingling with acquaintances, both old and new. He must come face-to-face with major personal decisions as well as with ones for his company, as papers need to be signed and major labels jostle for his attention. However, he will only find clarity miles away in Brazil, as the noise around him subsides and he engages in a more authentic form of deeper self-evaluation. Set in today’s post-apocalyptic music industry, The Sabbatical is part existential diary, part hedonistic travelogue, part music business intrigue, part anti-love story, and has been said to “take the philosophical novel into the age of social media.” “The Sabbatical is a satirical take on our notion of success,” says Pinto. “The most surprising existential drop doesn’t happen when we fail, but when we succeed by the standards of an inauthentic culture.” Receiving rave reviews on Amazon.com and on the blogosphere, the vivid characters and exceptional story-telling in The Sabbatical make for an action-packed read that is tough to put down. Please visit: www.thesabbaticalbook.com. Frederick Pinto has practiced, taught, published and lectured in the fields of entertainment, music law, digital copyright and high-technology law. In 2007 and 2008, he was the columnist on digital music business issues for Royalty Week, an industry-wide online publication, and has had numerous articles published in law journals, magazines and newspapers. Available at fine bookstores and online outlets The Sabbatical by Frederick Pinto Publisher: Createspace ISBN-10: 1475004265 ISBN-13: 978-1475004267 AZPHM has received a copy of this book and will be posting a review soon! __________________________________________________________ |

A
Mother's Love and Faith Move Mountains
Ellaville, GA, December 21, 2011 – Conventional
wisdom holds that faith and love can accomplish anything, but
rarely does a factual story prove it. But in The Bridge: Between
Cell Block A and a Miracle is Psalm 91 (Xulon Publishing),
Jackie Carpenter tells a tale of a mother’s love and her walk of
faith. It began in June of 2008 when her son apprehended thieves
in the act of stealing copper from his work site. The thefts
were increasing and, on the advice of a deputy, her son armed
himself to detain the thieves while he called police. Then the
gun accidentally fired, and one man was shot and killed.
Jackie Carpenter tells the powerful and compelling story of her
terrifying journey that began the morning she received a frantic
call from her son’s wife telling her that he had been arrested
for felony murder and ended when the jury returned its verdict
ten months later.
Jackie had been living the American Dream: she had a wonderful
husband, good health, two married sons, and four beautiful
grandchildren. But after her son was arrested and charged with
felony murder, as well as four other serious charges, her world
fell apart.
Jackie clung to Psalm 91, asking God for a miracle. During the
trial, her son’s attorney had asked her not to bring her Bible
into the courtroom for fear of offending a non-believing juror.
Jackie couldn’t comply. She was asking God for a miracle – how
could she take the chance of offending Him? The Bridge is the
story of a ten-month journey up to that fateful day in April
2009 when Jackie got her miracle in the form of an acquittal.
The sequel, Georgia Justice: A Story To Faith, acts as a guide
for building faith in the face of tragedy and grief. Jackie had
never believed that she would serve to be a resource for people
facing a life crises – but it took the worst crisis in her life
and the miracle that stemmed from it to drive her to write her
heart-wrenching story. It is a powerful testimony to the
spiritual strength this small-town lady found in the promises of
Psalm 91 and how she built her faith up during the tormenting
ten months leading up to her son’s trial.
Jackie Carpenter has been a featured guest on television, radio,
and in newspaper articles. Her two powerful books will be
produced into a motion picture that will be in theaters the fall
of 2012. For more information on this author and her miraculous
story of faith, hope, and love, please visit her website at:

Just When You
Think It Can’t Get Deadlier – Another Radical Force Joins The
Assault On Targets of Opportunity in the U.S.
Greenwich, CT, November 28, 2011 - In
Targets of Deception, which
suspense master Robert K. Tanenbaum called “a fast-paced
thriller,” we were introduced to CIA agent Jordan Sandor in a
story praised by bestselling author Steve Alten as “terrific.”
Now Sandor is back in Jeffrey S. Stephens’s riveting Targets of
Opportunity (Gallery Books; August 30, 2011; $24.00), playing
for bigger stakes and facing deadlier challenges.
Whisked from his Manhattan townhouse to a gabled CIA safe house
in Virginia, Sandor faces off with a top terrorist agent from
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. In exchange for protection from his
own side, Ahmad Jaber is offering the CIA explosive information:
word of a secret, unholy alliance forged among operatives in the
Middle East, a ruthless South American, and Kim Jong-II’s North
Korea. Jaber claims not to know specific details, only that the
strike will target the heart of America.
The fanatics stage a stunning diversion in the Caribbean,
mercilessly downing a passenger jet and unleashing an assault on
a French intelligence installation. Sandor, however, has already
moved in a different direction. Leveraging Jaber’s information,
he assembles a small strike force to penetrate North Korea. The
team knows they will not all return, but the intel they gather
will be vital to American security. What they ultimately
discover plunges Sandor into a frantic race against time,
struggling to defeat a shadowy figure—a master terrorist with a
plan of destruction so perfectly disguised that even with the
new knowledge he has gathered, Sandor cannot guess where or how
he will strike.
As a storm rages in the Gulf of Mexico, word comes that two
submarines have penetrated U.S. waters. With the U.S. military
hampered by the hurricane, Sandor turns to a few daring U.S.
Navy SEALs to duel with the enemy they cannot see…for now they
know only that there are two nuclear weapons aimed at a target
of opportunity whose destruction would change the world order
forever.
Brilliantly conceived, electrifyingly paced, Targets of
Opportunity captures a terrifying twenty-first century reality:
terrorists can—and will—try as many times as they need to attack
the United States. For the brave men and women who defend
our country, failure is not an option. Targets of
Opportunity will leave every reader hanging on for Jordan
Sandor’s next step, staying with him through to the end.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Jeffrey S. Stephens began the Jordan Sandor series with Targets
of Deception, published in 2009 to rave reviews. Born in New
York City, he now lives in Greenwich, Connecticut, with this
wife, Nancy, not far from their sons Graham and Trevor.
Jeff welcomes visitors to his website at
