MICHAEL
"Mike" REED RICHARDSON
Born: 11-12-1955
Died: 08-12-1979, at age 23, from leukemia, at St. Jude's Children's
Research Hospital, in Memphis, Hamilton County, Tennessee USA.
Michael Reed Richardson was unfortunately taken much too soon from the
people who loved him. He was diagnosed with leukemia shortly after he
graduated from high school in 1973; from what is now known as the
“Maryvale Cancer Cluster.” He divided his time between Phoenix, Arizona
and Memphis, Tennessee; where he received several medical treatments at
St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. (Internationally recognized for
its treatment of catastrophic diseases in children; focus in the care of
pediatric leukemia's and solid tumors. It's the only pediatric research
center where families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance,
and families without insurance are never asked to pay.) Mike fought a
most courageous battle for 5 years, trying several different regimens,
and suffered setbacks after 2 remissions. He succumbed to the disease on
August 12, 1979, at the age of 23, in an iron lung, at St. Jude's
Children's Hospital. Mike was known for his cunning sense of humor,
honesty, loving spirit, and determination to fight on. Mike had
beautiful long blonde hair. He was a friend to everyone who knew him. He
is greatly missed by his family and close friends. Mike was preceded in
death by his older brother Randy
Richardson, MHS; 1970 (deceased 04/11/1971), whom he rests with at
St. Francis Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th Street, Phoenix, Arizona. Funeral
services and interment were on 08/16/1979. He was survived by his
Father, Bill Richardson (now deceased); and his Mother, Maxine
(Richardson) Marchal; his best friend, Hal Glotfelter, MHS; 1973; his
step-siblings; Lisa (Marchal) Bolinger, Laura (Marchal) Permenter, and
Stephen Marchal; and the countless people he touched in his short stay
on this earth. His courage in the face of an unbeatable disease was an
inspiration to us all! Lovingly submitted by Laura (Marchal) Permenter
