Film:  Visual Acoustics March 28, 1pm  This film celebrates the life and career of Julius Shulman, the world's greatest architectural photographer, whose images brought modern architecture to the American mainstream. Shulman, who passed away in 2009, captured the work of nearly every modern and progressive architect since the 1930s including Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, John Lautner and Frank Gehry. His images epitomized the singular beauty of Southern California's modernist movement and brought its iconic structures to the attention of the general public. This unique film is both a testament to the evolution of modern architecture and a joyful portrait of the magnetic, whip-smart gentleman who chronicled it with his unforgettable images. Introduction by architect Eddie Jones, Jones Studio. Visual Acoustics won the Mercedes-Benz Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Palm Springs International Film Festival; the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Austin Film Festival; the Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary at the Lone Star International Film Festival; and Outstanding Achievement in Documentary Filmmaking at the Newport Beach Film Festival. Film:  Rembrandt’s J’accuse  April 18, 1pm  In this essayistic documentary, director Peter Greenaway fiercely criticizes today's visual illiteracy through a forensic examination of Rembrandt's The Night Watch. He leads us through 17th century Amsterdam to provide the masterwork's background, context and the motives of all 34 painted characters who have conspired to kill for their combined self-advantage. He paints a world that is democratic in principle but is almost entirely ruled by 12 families whose outward signs of charity and compassion hid a very different reality.  "Rembrandt's J’accuse is an enthralling docudrama with juicy conspiracy theories and forensic investigations worthy of top-tier TV crime drama." Film:  You Don’t Know Jack  April 25, 1pmThis film tells the fascinating story of pioneering American entertainer Jack Soo, an Oakland native who became the first Asian American to be cast in the lead role in a regular television series (Valentine's Day) and later starred in the popular comedy show Barney Miller. Featuring rare footage and interviews with Soo's costars and friends, including actors George Takei, Nancy Kwan and Max Gail, comedians Steve Landesberg and Gary Austin, and producer Hal Kanter, You Don't Know Jack traces his early beginnings as a nightclub singer and comedian, to his breakthrough role in Rogers and Hammerstein's Broadway play and film version of The Flower Drum Song. It also explores why Soo, a former internee born Goro Suzuki, was forced to change his name in order to perform post-World War II Midwestern clubs. You Don't Know Jack reveals how Soo's work laid the groundwork for a new generation of Asian American actors and comedians. Director Jeff Adachi attends the screening. Presented by No Festival Required Sponsored by Sechler C.P.A. P.C. and ASU’s Asian Pacific American Studies Program  Films are free on a first-come, first-seated basis unless otherwise noted.

Late Nite Catechism By Vicki Quade & Maripat Donovan, Ongoing; call for dates and times, Stage 2, Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Single ticket price: $36, The longest-running play in the Valley is still in a class by itself! Audience members are the students in catechism class, and Patti Hannon is "Sister" in this hilarious interactive comedy. You better be on your best behavior, or else Sister is likely to put you in the corner‹on stage! Every performance is unique and will appeal to all, regardless of one¹s faith.

Late Nite Catechism II: Sometimes We Feel Guilty Because We Are Guilty
By Maripat Donovan, Ongoing; call for dates and times,
Stage 2, Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Single ticket price: $36, That¹s right, the fun continues in Sister¹s second catechism class! You don¹t need to graduate from the first class to enjoy this one; Sister will give extra attention to her slower students. Sister has felt banners, a filmstrip, handouts, historical facts and hysterical insights to explain every nun¹s goal: getting into heaven and bringing along as many of the faithful as possible. Using a special version of Chutes and Ladders to demonstrate her point, Sister tells us where we¹ve gone wrong, and no one is excused from her firm belief that "sometimes we feel guilty because we are guilty."
