If these babies shake their rattles, you’d better pay attention!

New book helps children learn about rattlesnakes

Much maligned primarily because they are too often misunderstood, rattlesnakes have gotten a bad rap over the years. Conrad J. Storad, an award-winning author of more than 30 science and nature books for young readers, wants to do something about that.

In his just released book, Rattlesnake Rules, Conrad demystifies the world of rattlesnakes and introduces children to such topics as who, when, and what rattlesnakes eat. He shows readers why rattlesnakes have rattles and what it means if you hear one. You will learn how the snakes’ forked tongues help them survive. The delightful and colorful illustrations of Nathaniel P. Jensen help bring the story alive. Story Continues

This popular group is bringing back the show that sold out for Mother’s Day weekend the last two years. Reminisce the good ol’ days with this talented group. Rhonda, Caryl and Laurie do the tunes made popular by the McGuire Sisters, The Chordettes, and many more. Scott accompa-nies them on the keyboard and provides bass background and a few surprise solos with his great range. Jingle that memory with "Sincerely," "Sugartime," "Mr. Lee" and more from the 1950’s. Let tunes like "Baby Love," "Johnny Angel" and "My Guy" wake up the 60’s. Book Review The Civility Solution

By LeeAnn Sharpe

The Civility Solution by P.M. Forni, published 2008 from St. Martin’s Press

ISBN 0-312-36849-6, has 166 pages.

This book answers many questions with an extremely civil attitude that common sense dictates to most people, but frequently seems to be lost in today’s world.  P. M. Forni, the award winning professor of Italian literature at Johns Hopkins University, has founded a Civility Institute. His 2002 book Choosing Civility has sold over a hundred thousand copies proving that what was once taught from childhood, has been lost for generations, and now must be learned by adults unaware that civility is what drives peaceful co-existence. Audience members are the students in catechism class, and Patti Hannon is "Sister" in this hilarious interactive comedy. You better be on your best behavior, or else Sister is likely to put you in the corner‹on stage! Every performance is unique and will appeal to all, regardless of one¹s faith.

Late Nite Catechism II: Sometimes We Feel Guilty Because We Are Guilty
By Maripat Donovan, Ongoing; call for dates and times,
Stage 2, Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Single ticket price: $36, That¹s right, the fun continues in Sister¹s second catechism class! You don¹t need to graduate from the first class to enjoy this one; Sister will give extra attention to her slower students. Sister has felt banners, a filmstrip, handouts, historical facts and hysterical insights to explain every nun¹s goal: getting into heaven and bringing along as many of the faithful as possible. Using a special version of Chutes and Ladders to demonstrate her point, Sister tells us where we¹ve gone wrong, and no one is excused from her firm belief that "sometimes we feel guilty because we are guilty."
